TRENTON HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL 2025 TEAM RULES
By being a member of the Trenton HS Softball program, there will be high expectations placed upon you. Being a part of this program is a privilege, not a right. You will be expected to put the team goals ahead of your own goals, and if you buy into our program 100% it will help make you a better person as well as enhance the image of our program.
You are expected to represent your school, your community, and your family in a way that all will be proud of. If you do anything that will embarrass your family, your teammates, your coaching staff, your school, or your community you will be disciplined by our “The Strike Rule”.
The Strike Rule: For infractions of the rules printed below, the 3-strike rule will be in effect. Players will be allowed three infractions or “strikes” for minor violations before being dismissed from the team. (Examples on the following page)
The “Golden” Rule
Do not do anything that will embarrass your family, your teammates, your coaching staff, your school, or your community.
Consequences:
1st Strike – Meet with Coach Tanguay or an assistant coach.
2nd Strike – Team leaders and athletes will meet with Coach Tanguay and place conditions at the coach’s discretion.
3rd Strike – A contract will be drawn up with stipulations that must be met to avoid team dismissal.
4th Strike – Dismissal from the Team
However, major infractions, including but not limited to any illegal or unlawful activity on or off campus, can result in immediate and unconditional dismissal from the team per the Athletic Handbook.

MINOR INFRACTIONS
Examples of minor violations include but are not limited to the following:
You must meet ALL MHSAA requirements for participation as well as standards established by THS, reference the Athletic Handbook and THS Student Handbook.
Social Media and wearing uniforms during post.
Practice begins at 3:15 PM (Varsity) unless otherwise noted (please see Rainy Day Schedule for inclement weather practice times). This includes spikes on and ready to go.
Being late to class is the same as being late to practice. Both will result in conditioning after practice.
Attendance at all practices and games is required. Making a phone call or having a prearranged note signed before a missed practice MUST excuse absences. Examples of excused absences would be illness and emergencies. All appointments and family vacations should be scheduled at times other than practices or games.
Suspended players (in-school or out-of-school) will be suspended from any games occurring that day. Players receiving in-school suspension should report to practice.
Report all injuries promptly to a coach and trainer. If you don’t tell us you are injured, we may not be able to tell. We want to help you. Depending on the injury, you can still do certain things. If you are not injured we will expect you to work hard. You do not help the team by working half-speed. If you can still practice, we can always work with you in some capacity.
Coaches should be made aware of any medical condition that a player may have. Any athlete who has gone to a doctor will need a release to play before a coach can allow the athlete to resume activity.Practice hard at game tempo. EVERYTHING MATTERS!
All players are required to help carry equipment at practices and at games, in accordance to and beyond their posted duties.
Players must be dressed in their issued softball gear. A player’s attire should not restrict her ability to practice at 100%. Softball pants are to be worn at all practices; No Shorts.
Players must be FULLY dressed before boarding the bus or entering the dugout. Spikes are the exception.
Players will sprint to and from their positions. WE HUSTLE (seven seconds on and off the field).
Playing time will be determined by the coaching staff. The coaching staff will be more than happy to talk to YOU, the players, and you only, about your playing time should you have a concern. Please set up a time to speak to your coach that does not interfere with practice or game preparation. WE WILL NOT SPEAK WITH PARENTS ABOUT PLAYING TIME.
Accept your role. If you do not like it, work hard to change it.
DISRESPECT FOR COACHES, FACULTY, AND STAFF WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
Throwing and/or abuse of equipment is prohibited. If equipment is thrown/abused and damaged, the player will be expected to reimburse THS Softball for replacement costs.
Players are responsible for all equipment issued to them. They are also to respect other people’s equipment and property. Stealing (borrowing without permission) will not be tolerated.
Take care of your health, your relationships with your teammates, and your performance on and off the field.
The coach will make the final decision on whether a young woman will be allowed to become a member of the Softball team. The decision is based upon consideration of all listed policies.
